Mosaic Phosphates is located in Uncle Sam in
St. James Parish.
The
St. James facility directly employs about 164 people. Their total
payroll is $9,000,000. In addition, the facility is one of the
largest taxpayers in St. James Parish --- helping to support local
education, build roads and bridges and keep our local police and
fire departments operating.
While
ammonia is probably best known as a household cleaning product,
about 80 percent of all ammonia produced is used to make nitrogen
fertilizers. Because of ammonia fertilizers, farmers have healthier
crops and higher yields and are able to produce enough food to feed
the worlds population. In addition to ammonia, our facility
also produces diammonium phosphate, monoammonium phosphate, phosphoric
acid, sulfuric acid, and urea fertilizer.
Mosaic
Phosphates also contributes thousands of dollars and our employees
volunteer hundreds of hours to support local programs and community
activities.
Environmental
and safety performance are top priorities, and we are always looking
for ways to improve. Since 1987, Mosaic Phosphates has reduced emissions
to the air, land and water by 92 percent, which was accomplished
by upgrading production process and implementing innovative recycling
and reusing technologies. Our employees also participate in routine
safety training programs and drills, and continuous monitoring ensures
that our operations are run smoothly and efficiently for our employees
and the community.
